After the First World War, the French were not only "the hereditary enemy" and occupiers, but also people with whom the German population got into conversation. Friendships were formed, which often developed into romantic relationships. Diaries and photos from public and private collections document everyday life during the French occupation from 1918 to 1930 in what is now Rhineland-Palatinate, on display in the traveling exhibition "The Failed Peace" at the Haus der Stadtgeschichte.
